Abstract :
The open rectangular loop antenna has the advantages of simplicity, low cost and the possibility of being directly connected to standard transmission lines. It has a large impedance bandwidth at the third resonance with the maximum value of the radiation field in the direction normal to the plane of the loop. The broadband characteristics encourage one to use this antenna in arrays, to improve the directivity, and at the same time retain the large bandwidth obtained with the single element. The two opposite coplanar open rectangular loop antennas shown are chosen for investigation. They are fed in phase to produce a broadside radiation pattern. The broadside arrays have many applications in VHF and UHF; e.g. transmitting TV signals. The moment method has been used to investigate the suggested arrangement. The input impedance of each antenna was determined and the radiation pattern, directivity, and bandwidth, were examined at the third resonance.
