This study aims at investigating the sex assessment of the measurements on the metacarpals in macaque. The measurements were taken from 35 metacarpals of adult skeletons (7 males and 28 females), and the data were analysed with univariate statistics and multivariate analysis using SPSS (Version 13.0) program. Four dimensions, including maximum length, midshaft width, midshaft height, and midshaft circumference were taken and subjected to direct and stepwise discriminant function analysis. The results indicated that the accuracy of sex determination of both direct and stepwise analysis was higher and similar on both sides of the body. However, the maximum length was only one variable selected out of the four entered into the analysis by the stepwise analysis. No other variables were selected. Overall, the accuracy of sex determination by direct analysis ranged from 91.4% to 97.1% and the value by stepwise analysis ranged from 90.0% to 97.0% The validity and stability of these functions was further tested and confirmed using the leave-one-out classification. Among these measurements, sexual dimorphism tended to be greatest in the maximum length of metacarpals.
