Abstract
As the number of mobile and airborne radio systems increases, their antennas compete for antenna space on the surface of the vehicle. One way to mitigate this problem is to use multifunction antennas, which requires very broadband antennas. A spiral mode microstrip (SMM) antenna is presented as a multifunction antenna. It has the rare combination of broad bandwidth and low profile and is efficient and amenable to diversity of pattern and polarization. It exhibits a gain bandwidth ratio of more than 6:1 and even larger pattern and impedance bandwidths
