Abstract
The breakdown time of a triggered vacuum gap (TVG) is inversely proportional to the triggering energy. Because of the equivalent inductance increase, the breakdown time trends a constant, after the triggering energy reaches a certain value. With the use of a low inductance capacitor, a reduced triggering energy can result in a remarkable decrease of the breakdown time. The improvement in the structure of the TVG is a good way of reducing the breakdown time
