Abstract :
This paper describes the new version of the standard architecture for electronic fee collection, or the "road transport and traffic telematics - electronic fee collection - system architecture for vehicle related transport services", which is the title of the new ISO 17573. Differently from previous versions of the same standard, this new edition on one side takes into consideration the newly developed architectures for tolling in a number of European projects, and, on the other side, has the ambitious aim to act as basic reference architecture for all EFC related standards. To do this, a more general view has been taken for EFC related processes and actors, and, to better express all needed aspects, the open distributed processing (ODP) standard has been used for the description of the architecture. A brief description of the ODP concepts is also given in the paper, to better explain which are the architectural benefits gained by adopting such an architectural modelling technique.
