Abstract
The deformation of the liquid cathode surface in a vacuum arc with a stationary diffuse spot has been studied. The cathode surface has been investigated with help of a laser monitor which allowed observation, in reflected laser light, of the surface through the layer of luminous plasma. It has been established that the deformation of the cathode surface may be explained by extremely high energy of ions coming to the cathode
