Abstract :
The authors present a simulation study of file transfers in a token-ring local area network. Three service disciplines have been simulated, i.e. exhaustive, gated, and limited. Simulation results are presented in terms of average message (file) delay and power. The message lengths have been assumed to follow a normal distribution. The results show that as the traffic load increases the average delay increases. However, the delay is the lowest with exhaustive service discipline. The effects of standard deviation of message length on the average message delay and power are also considered
