Abstract
The principle of microwave absorption due to the presence of water has been applied to the online determination of moisture in coal on a running conveyor belt. An empirical relationship between the percentage water in the coal and the resultant microwave signal was determined experimentally. Applicable software running on a personal computer coupled via suitable interfacing to the microwave detector and other measuring equipment then makes use of this relationship to calculate moisture content
