Abstract :
An analytical study of a three-dimensional positron-emission imaging system using both coincident pair-photon and noncoincident single-photon events is presented. The utilization of the noncoincident single-photon events at 511 keV to supplement the coincident pair-photon measurements for three-dimensional image reconstruction is described. Detector efficiency and resolution of this imaging system are calculated. Computer simulation and calculation of sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, noise background, and contrast are carried out for a cylindrical water phantom. Comparisons of these four factors between this imaging system and the conventional positron-emission imaging system are given
