Abstract :
The use of increasingly more complex systems and higher levels of system integration on transport aircraft systems and equipment has created new safety and certification challenges. Recent and current initiatives are providing aviation industry and regulatory authorities technical guidance in a manner that helps meet their mutual objectives and responsibilities in the area of system safety. The proposed new amendment to ξ/JAR 25.1309 and its associated guidance material which references two new industry standards, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) 4754, “Certification Considerations of Highly Integrated Complex Systems” and SAE ARP 4761, “Guidelines and Methods of Performing the Safety Assessment Process on Civil Airborne Systems and Equipment”, represents a collective government and industry effort to pursue solutions to current challenges in the area of system safety
