Abstract :
The authors review HIGIPS (High-Speed General-Purpose Image Processing System) design concepts and a prototype HIGIPS configuration, and describe its application to the recognition of periodic motions. HIGIPS, which employs a combination of pipeline architecture and multiprocessor architecture, is a high-speed, high-performance, and low-cost N×(M+1) multi-microprocessor parallel machine, where N is the number of pipeline stages and M+1 is the number of processors in each stage. The application of HIGIPS to the recognition of a pendulumlike motion is discussed. From this experiment, it is clear that HIGIPS can efficiently perform dynamic image processing and recognition
