Abstract
High data rates are now available over phone lines using DSL, yet higher rates are in demand. That spurred interest in the multi-channel optimization to increase the aggregate throughput over multi-cable binders. In this paper, we optimize the transmit filters that can be used over wireline channels. The system is modeled as a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channel. The optimization takes two steps, first the transmit filters are optimized assuming the channel is known a priori to maximize the information rate. Second, under the assumption of co-located receivers, the multi-dimensional DFE is used. Total aggregate information rate and bit-error-rate results show that such scheme gives dramatic improvement in system throughput
