New fabrication technology of SiO2 optical fiber preform

This paper describes the preparation technology development of optical fiber preform, and gives a comprehensive analysis to the development of domestic and international fiber optic industry. And in this paper, the technical process, preparation methods, principles and difficulties on SiO₂ optical fiber preform by sol-gel were also analyzed. This paper provides a theoretical basis for manufacture of optical fiber preform by sol-gel method, and finally future research directions by this method are outlined.
