Abstract
Single antenna terminal for multiple applications is desired nowadays due to compact devices and power constraints. The paper presents a glass loaded Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for wideband mobile communication and extended C band applications. 1.6mm thick FR4 is used as substrate material with glass of relative permittivity 5.5 as Dielectric Resonators (DR) material, excited by the crescent-shaped radiator patch. Defected ground structure (DGS) is used for bandwidth enhancement with stub feed line excitation technique. The designed antenna shows good agreement between simulated and measured results in terms of S-parameter (SII) and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR). Both experimental and theoretical results satisfy impedance bandwidth between 0.8-6.4GHz with omni-directional radiation patterns. The DRA simulation was carried out using Ansoft HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) v-13 and for testing Agilent Vector Network Analyzer was used.
