Abstract :
The recent experiments on individual quantum dots display quite often a special shape of the luminescence emission line, namely a very narrow peak with a pronounced shoulder at the low-energy side. In the present work an attention will be paid to the theoretical interpretation of this line shape in terms of the multiple scattering of quantum dot electrons on the longitudinal optical phonons. It is shown that this interaction mechanism gives the line shapes observed in experiment. It is shown that the line shape depends on the electronic statistical distribution and can thus provide information about this zero-dimensional object and can help to decide the plausibility of models and approximations.
