Abstract
Commonly radar altimeters are equipped for cruise missiles which can only detect the land terrain contour, and can´t work on the sea. In order to overcome this shortcoming, a scheme of laser altimeter was designed to detect the seabed terrain instead of the radar altimeter. The technology of diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL) was adopted to design laser transmitter, outputting infra-red /blue-green dual-wavelength laser, since the green laser beam could transmit through seawater and provide the bottom return. To raise the performance of the laser altimeter, the laser´s configuration, the detector system, the optics system and the scanning system were designed carefully. The designed laser altimeter features small size, light weight, high repetition rate, high detection sensitivity and strong anti interference ability.
