Abstract
A knowledge-based method for optimal servo design is proposed to reduce the trial and error procedures. Introduction of specification-oriented design parameters based on the decomposition of weighting matrices for continuous time system design makes it possible to develop a compact and plant-independent knowledge base. The knowledge base takes care of the tradeoff in the design and helps to judge the tradeoff. For digital servo system design, a novel redesign scheme is proposed for adopting the knowledge base. A CAD (computer-aided design) system based on this idea has been also developed
