Abstract :
Utilising temperature and pressure readings taken at pump suction and at pump discharge for the accurate determination of high-pressure pump efficiency. The method outlined can be applied to any high-pressure pumping system or pump where the efficiency is required to be determined but where accurate measurement of the mass flow rate and power input is not possible or readily available. The technique described in this paper is essentially based on the works of Austin Whillier (Chamber of Mines, Johannesburg, South Africa) and his paper titled "pump efficiency determination from temperature measurements" as published in the October 1967 edition of The South African Mechanical Engineer.
