Abstract :
Asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) is a technique developed for time-domain analysis of electrical interconnects. AWE is an approximate method whose accuracy depends on the order of the approximation. Asymptotic waveform evaluation is used to analyze various transmission line-type interconnects. The principal problem addressed is the evaluation of crosstalk. AWE is applied to a variety of circuits including a lumped-pi model, a transmission line model and a partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) model. The issues associated with the order of the AWE approximation and calculation of the system response for these types of circuits are addressed. AWE calculations are compared to SPICE calculations and published data where available
