Abstract
The influence of edge-diffracted direct rays and edge-diffracted whispering gallery modes (WGM) on the radiation pattern of a spherical reflector is studied. The incident field which illuminates the reflector is assumed to be created by a ring source located at the center of the sphere and carrying a constant electric current. After delivering the field component contributions related to the diffraction of the incident wave as well as the WGM excited by an earlier diffraction, numerical results comparing the two components are given.<>
