The adsorption capability of dimethylglyoxime immobilized organobentonite (DMG-bentonite) for lead ion in water was investigated. The optimum experimental parameters for the adsorption and preconcentration of the lead ions, such as pH, time, eluent and coexisting ion, have been studied. The results showed that the lead ion in water could be adsorbed on the DMG-bentonite. The adsorbed quantitively was affected by the pH value of medium and contact time. In the medium of pH 5-8, the adsorption time was 10 min, and capacity of adsorption was 16.72 mg/g. The lead ion adsorbed on the sorbent could be completely evaluated by using 1 mol/L HNO3. The adsorption agent has been applied to the removal of the lead in the wastewater and the preconcentration of lead ion in surface water sample.
