Abstract :
The basic structure and design theory of reflector impulse radiating antenna (IRA) is introduced in this paper. And the improvement of the feeding structure of the reflector IRA is considered. Two improving method are proposed. First is the tapered design on feeding arms in comparison to traditional triangle feeding arm. The purpose of this improving method is to solve the problem of stored energy around the arm-reflector junction. Secondly a method of changing the angle of the feed arms is studied to improve the antenna performance. The simulation results for the new antennas show that gain and VSWR are improved according to both of the new designs. The IRA with tapered feeding arms located on the position of phi0 = 70deg gives an average gain improvement of 4 dB in the entire frequency compared with traditional IRA.
