  • Abstract
    A flow injection spectrophotometric method for rapid determination of Cetylpyridinium Bromide (CPB) is proposed in this paper. The method is based on the reaction of Cetylpyridinium Bromide with xylenol orange (XO) in the medium of (CH2)6N4-HCl (pH=5.4) buffer solution. The absorbance intensity was registered in this reaction solution at 520 nm. The calibration graph is linear in the range of 0.5-2.4mg I-1. The detection limit is 0.11 mg I-1 at a sampling frequency of 20h-1. The relative standard deviation was 0.43% CPB (n=6). This method is very simple, rapid and suitable for automatic and continuous analysis. The presented system has been applied successfully to determination of CPB of environmental water samples.
