Abstract
A mobile station (MS) localization method is provided using angle of arrival (AOAs) measurements in UMTS-FDD systems. This method enhances the performances of existing algorithms based on a simple trilateration by taking into account possible ´large´ AOA error measurements caused by nonline-of-sight (NLOS) and near-far effect (NFE). The new method measures the ´coherence´ between the AOA estimates, in order to allow the mobile to select the two most reliable measures and not to use all measures equally. The proposed method has also the advantage to not require any change in the UMTS-FDD standard.
