Abstract
Using a Computer-Aided Seating System (CASS) equipped with ultrasonic transducers, we have performed a preliminary biomechanical analysis of buttock soft tissue. Tissue layer thickness and deformation, and interface pressure response were investigated in vitro using porcine tissue and in vivo with a human subject. The results show that muscle deforms more than skin and fat in response to external loading. The time-phase relationship of peak interface pressure and peak tissue deformation may indicate more information about the viscoelastic properties of soft tissue
