Abstract
In a rotational machine, unbalance on the rotor is formidable since it causes resonance synchronized with the rotation of the rotor. In order to suppress this unfavorable vibration, the authors built an active vibration control system for a flexible rotor using electromagnetic bearings as the damper. This control system is composed of a digital controller to suppress the rotationally synchronized whirling motion and a conventional analog controller. In order to determine control signals of the digital controller, a heuristic method and a neural network model are used. Using this control system, the whirling motion of the rotor under various rotating speeds has been suppressed significantly
