  • Abstract
The starting point of the technique is the knowledge of the zeros of the independently optimum sum ( sigma ) and difference ( Delta ) space factors. For any array of antenna elements, the synthesis problem is stated as one of determining the set of subarray weights such that a system of equations is satisfied. It is observed that for the L/sub 1/, L/sub 2/, and L/sub infinity / norms considered, application of the L/sub infinity / solution results in Delta -patterns with higher sidelobes than those obtained with the L/sub 1/ or L/sub 2/ solutions. For unconstrained solutions, whether the L/sub 1/ or L/sub 2/ solutions give the most satisfactory Delta -pattern is dependent on the subarray configuration under consideration. For constrained solutions the results obtained using the L/sub 1/ and L/sub 2/ solutions are almost identical.<>
