Abstract
We have developed a Monte Carlo simulation model to study the performance of a block detector consisting of 25 YAP:Ce match-like crystals (2×2×30 mm3 each) coupled to a position sensitive photomultiplier Hamamatsu R2486-06 and used in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The model included the energy deposition via photoelectric and Compton interactions, the generation and propagation of scintillation photons, the emission of photoelectrons from the photocathode and the PMT pulse formation. The detection efficiency, the energy and the time resolution of the detector have been estimated and found in agreement with measurements
