Abstract :
A measurement methodology was developed to characterize wideband electrical and material properties of ceramic coaxial resonators. This methodology combines the intrinsic physical model of a coaxial resonator and the equivalent circuit model of the measurement configuration to form a deterministic mathematical system for determining characteristic impedance and self-resonant frequency. Incorporated with harmonic-resonance reflection coefficient measurements and fractional linear curve fitting procedure, this methodology can efficiently recover electrical parameters that describe the resonant characteristics of ceramic coaxial resonators. Additionally the dielectric constant of the constituent ceramic material can be recovered simultaneously. The experimental results show that the applicable frequency ranges of ceramic coaxial resonators are strongly limited by their conductor dissipations.
