  • Abstract
This paper describes the output characteristics of a series resonant DC link AC/AC PWM converter. This system not only realizes zero current switching for all switches, but the output waveforms can be controlled by using a PWM control method. The characteristics of the currents and voltage at some key points of the proposed circuit as a function of the output power are studied. The current and voltage of the resonant circuit are constant regardless of the output power. The conduction loss and the switching loss of the switches in the proposed circuit are compared with those in the conventional current source inverter using high-speed thyristors. The results show that the losses involved in switching in the proposed converter are smaller than those in the conventional current source inverter. Therefore, the proposed circuit can realize high switching frequency for high power applications
