In order to gain a better understanding of high fluoride concentration in surface water in the central of loess plateau, we carried out to detect fluoride concentration in water samples came from 12 towns in Huan County which situated in the central loess plateau using the SPADNS colorimetric method. Analytical results showed that the concentrations of fluoride in all water samples were at the range of 1.06 and 2.95 mg/L. From the analysis, we found that the concentrations of fluoride in all samples were above the maximum allowable concentration for fluoride in drinking water of 1.0 mg/1 in China. On the other hand, the fluoride concentration has regularly changed as seasons exchanged. According to the analysis, it was obvious that fluoride concentration level in surface water has integrated strongly to geological form and environmental factors.
