This paper will focus on the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus concentration on the growth of algae in Lake Xuanwu. The relationship between algae growing and nitrogen to phosphorus atomic ratios (N:P) analyzed in the experiment, the results showed that N:P was the significant factor affecting the algae growth and phosphorus act as the limiting factor. The optimal ratio of phosphorus and nitrogen was above 15:1, while, obviously, the living condition of algae was not better than that the ratio above it. When the need of the phosphorus concentration via ingest was enough, the best living condition of the algal was 40:1, which solely depended on the nitrogen concentration. In addition, pH also had remarkably impact on algae growing.
