Volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons were detected by photo ionization detector. The halogenated hydrocarbon RAE-SEP tubes were used to remove the interference of Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene & Xylene (BTEX). The results show that tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, cis-1, 2-dichloroethene, benzene, toluene and ethyl benzene have good linear response on PID. The halogenated hydrocarbon RAE-SEP tubes exhibit good separation of BTEX from volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons confirmed by GC analysis. So PID combined with halogenated hydrocarbon RAE-SEP tubes could be used for the on-situ monitoring of volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater.
