Abstract :
In this paper we present a new method for preprocessing of scanned documents , aimed at the enhancement of the documents´ visual quality and as a consequence at their efficient compression and archiving. The preprocessing comprises two basic steps: adaptive image filtration and histogram modification, based on the image histogram analysis. The new method ensures the retaining of the visual quality of the main objects in the image and high compression ratio for different compression tools.
