Coagulation, a quite complicated process, is an important part of conventional treatment technologies of drinking water and it is easily affected by hydraulic conditions. In the present paper, the influences of container shape and agitation speed on coagulation effect of polyaluminium chloride (PAC) were investigated by orthogonal experiments. The experimental results showed that the container shape and agitation speed had a significant impact on coagulation effect of PAC. The optimum agitation speed was 180 r/min for round container and it reduced to 120 r/min for square container. Moreover, the influences of the depth into the water of the stirring paddle on coagulation effect of PAC were also investigated. The obtained results demonstrated that the feasible ratio of the depth (h) into the water of the stirring paddle to the height (H) of water surface was approximate 0.47 (h/H ≈ 0.47).
