Abstract :
A knowledge base of burner management systems (BMSs) as adapted to a programmable controller platform is described. Emphasis is placed on the safety and reliability aspects of the system, including both the hardware components and the software components that interact with the hardware. It is concluded that safety and reliability are the keys to the successful implementation of a burner management system. The subsystems must be designed with an awareness of these two elements and combined to form an integrated system.<>
