Abstract
In the area of distribution management such as outage management, there is a large demand for automation systems. The challenge to those that specify the requirements for these systems, and those that build them are quite extensive and are the main focus of this paper and presentation. The examples of critical success factor discussed in this paper reflect the need for utilities and suppliers to be diligent in providing the functionality necessary to support the business processes related to outage management. Technology alone is only a piece of the solution. Significant benefits will be achieved only when technology and processes are integrated and the key success factors are considered, as utility requirements become more and more complex.
