Abstract
The aim of ontology research is to develop knowledge representations that can be shared and reused. Domain ontologies provide shared and common understanding of a specific domain. In this paper, we discuss and analyze some ontology development methodologies. Based on the analysis of these methodologies and IEEE Standard for developing software life cycle processes, we propose a knowledge engineering approach to build domain ontology. Following this approach, using ontology editor Hozo, we have developed C Programming ontology. Also we describe our experience in the development of C Programming ontology, analyze the problems in development of domain ontology and demonstrate the applicability of proposed knowledge engineering approach for the development of e-learning course ontology.
