Abstract :
This discussion presents some of the practical lessons learned and testing benefits, both expected and unexpected from execution of the WSCC tests. Arizona Public Service Company (APS) has completed testing on over 20 units to date. The units range in size from approximately 40 MVA to over 900 MVA and encompass excitation systems from 1950s vintage amplidynes and magnetic amplifiers to modern solid state static systems. Nearly every unit tested was found to be capable of improved performance with setting modifications or repair of defective elements in the excitation system or governor. Likewise, analysis of the data collected has lead to more accurate computer modeling of several machines tested
