Abstract
TransAlta Utilities in Alberta, Canada, has 29 generators that qualified to be tested as per the Western System Coordinating Council (WSCC) requirements for synchronous generator testing. This included 12 steam turbine generators and 17 hydro generators. TransAlta´s goals were to obtain as much information with the generators online and have a smooth efficient process to collect data when the generator was isolated from the grid. This paper discusses risk management, testing difficulties, test methodologies and test results
