Abstract
During the first two weeks of March 1998, tests were conducted on all of the generating units at San Diego Gas and Electric´s (SDG&E) South Bay and Encina power stations. Tests were also made on one unit at SDG&E´s Kearny combustion turbine station. These tests were performed to acquire steady-state and dynamic response measurements of the generating equipment for use in deriving and validating dynamic simulation models for the generators, excitation systems, and governor systems. This summary provides an overview of the overall project for the testing and model validation effort associated with the South Bay, Encina and Kearny units. It includes an overview of the project initiation efforts, description of generating facilities, description of testing and data acquisition process, and the model derivation efforts and final results
