Abstract :
This paper describes a graphical teaching tool, D2EAC, which is used to demonstrate the equal area criterion to undergraduate students. Distinguishing from textbooks and common teaching tools, the authors demonstrate this basic but powerful criterion dynamically. Moreover, they generalize this criterion so that the damping effect and the superconducting magnetic energy system (SMES) control devices can be included. Some solved examples, which include transient stability analysis and transient stability enhancement using a SMES, are presented
