Abstract :
In order to stabilize a wide area power system, it is very important to have a fast stability assessment method. In this paper, a decomposition and model reduction method for wide area power system stability assessment is discussed. The subsystem model reduction is performed using the characteristic of each oscillation mode. The oscillation modes which only related to the local oscillation are eliminated. With the reduced and decomposed model, it is possible to estimate the steady state stability quickly. Furthermore, since the proposed method is based on the decomposition of the system, it is possible to utilize a parallel processing technique to improve the calculation speed. In order to show the effectiveness of the method, steady state stability analysis was performed using the model power system
