Supporting student learning community in rural area through ICT

Improving the learning process quality of the students is an urgent need, particularly for those in rural areas. A key solution in this Information era is by utilizing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This allows the students to broaden information access as a foundation for developing student learning community (SLC). Our approach to support the SLC through ICTs is by providing off-line access, local on-line access, and global on-line access for the students. The system is implemented in Punclut village. Our research shows that the students get some benefits of being use ICTs equipments: increase ICT literacy and improve learning process. Also, it is interesting to note that there are several technical and non-technical aspects that come up.
