Abstract
The present status and future prospects of FACTS devices and HVDC technologies for modernizing future power systems are reviewed and discussed. The power system across continental Europe is continuing to change due to the integration of renewable energy sources into power grids, leading to the growing need for advanced FACTS and HVDC control with the possibility of integration with wide area stability control and protection systems to prevent cascading outages and system blackouts
