Abstract :
This paper presents a project based modeling of hydro power generation. The demand for electricity in residential sector is experiencing a strong growth and 16,283 million liters of water is being used in Malaysia every day. With this large amount of water, it can be fully utilized to produce electricity from the flow of water inside the domestic pipeline. The kinetic energy from the flow of water is able to turn the turbine. The shaft of the turbine rotates in unison with a series of magnets inside the generator. The large magnets rotate past copper coils which will produce electricity. This electricity is then passed to the battery charger to be stored in a rechargeable battery. The power generated from the pipeline depends on the water flow rate, water consumption, pressure head and the turbine and generator used in this project. It is found that hydro power generation from the domestic pipeline is able to reduce the use of electricity in household.
