Abstract :
This works deals with the problem of finding and identifying insulating components of distribution lines that have hidden defects or present a state of incipient failure. These components, such as insulators or switches, may present sporadic defects that should be investigated by the utility. Classic tools used to find these components are based on radio interference and ultrasound signals emitted from the defective component, translated into audible noise, and relays on operator experience. This work present a simple and visual method for finding problematic components based on ultrasound, which can be employed by the crew personnel, not requiring special training.
