Abstract :
Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is becoming an increasingly severe problem for present and future microwave satellite missions. Transmissions from ground based systems at low microwave frequencies can contaminate, with a high level of noise, the remote sensed measurements (both from aircraft and satellite) at these wavelengths. In this work, the multi-temporal Robust Satellite Techniques (RST) approach has been applied in order to identify land areas where C-band AMSR-E (Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on Earth Observing System) radiances are systematically affected by RFI. A preliminary RFI exclusion map for AMSRE C-band has been developed. Among its possible uses, such a product may help to localize where using AMSR-E for soil moisture retrieval is less practicable because highly RFI. Preliminary results of such an analysis will be shown in this paper, discussing also its possible implementation at higher AMSR-E frequencies as well as on other satellite sensors.
