Abstract
In this article a case study in Navarra is used to show which the advantages of DC use in wind farms could be. Firstly a review of the main peculiarities of the Spanish and Navarra electric power system is carried out to identify which are the characteristics that pose the major difficulties for a higher wind penetration. Secondly a WF case in this community is exposed and the barriers to its repowering revealed. Next a solution based on direct current (DC) use is proposed and the main DC advantages to facilitate wind energy integration summarized
