  • Abstract
    We investigate the application of multiuser detection schemes to a regional GEO satellite mobile system based on FDM/TDMA. Coverage and channel models for the uplink (mobile to satellite) of this system are reviewed. Candidate receiver schemes are sought among the class of linear multiuser receivers. A new simple MMSE combiner is proposed. This provides close-to-optimal performance in terms of minimum output MSE and lends itself to a very simple adaptive implementation. Results pertaining to FDM/TDMA coded transmission with slow frequency hopping and short interleaving are presented.
